പാലക്കാട്;  46 മണിക്കൂറിലേറെ മലമ്പുഴയിലെ പാറയിടുക്കില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയ ബാബു(23)വിനെ സുരക്ഷിതനായി ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചെത്തിക്കാനുള്ള സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ ദൗത്യം വിജയം. കരസേനാ സംഘത്തിലെ സൈനികന്‍ ബാബുവിന്റെ അരികില്‍ എത്തി ഭക്ഷണവും വെള്ളവും നല്‍കി. തുടര്‍ന്ന്സു രക്ഷാ ബെല്‍റ്റും ഹെല്‍മറ്റും ധരിപ്പിച്ച് സൈനികനൊപ്പം മുകളിലേക്ക് കയറ്റുകയായിരുന്നു. 9.30ന് ആരംഭിച്ച് 40 മിനിറ്റ് നീണ്ട ദൗത്യത്തിനൊടുവില്‍ ബാബുവിനെ സൈന്യം മലമുകളിലെത്തിച്ചു. ഹെലികോപ്ടറിലൂടെ എയര്‍ലിഫ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു  ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തു

നെഞ്ചിടിപ്പോടെ കേരളം കാത്തുനിന്നത് 46 മണിക്കൂര്‍. സൈന്യവും ദുരന്തപ്രതികരണ സേനയും എവറസ്റ്റ് കിഴടക്കിയവരും പര്‍വതാരോഹകരും അടക്കം എല്ലാവരും ഒരു വലിയ സംഘം കൈകോര്‍ത്തപ്പോള്‍ അതിദുഷ്‌കരമായി തുടര്‍ന്ന ദൗത്യം അങ്ങനെ ആശങ്കയുടെ മണിക്കൂറുകള്‍ക്കൊടുവില്‍ വിജയകരമായി പരിസമാപിച്ചു. എല്ലാം നിരീക്ഷിച്ചും വഴിയൊരുക്കിയും ഡ്രോണ്‍ അകമ്പടിസേവിച്ചു. കേരളം കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും വലിയ രക്ഷാദൗത്യം സമ്പൂര്‍ണമായി വിജയം കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ ബാബുവിന്റെ മനോധൈര്യവും ഇച്ഛാശക്തിയും അതില്‍ തെളിഞ്ഞുനിന്നു. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാവിലെ 10.20 ഓടെ ബാബുവുമായി ആര്‍മി സംഘം മലമുകളിലെത്തി. 

ചുട്ടുപൊള്ളുന്ന പകൽ, ശക്തമായ കാറ്റ്, തണുത്തുറഞ്ഞ രാത്രി... തുള്ളിവെള്ളമില്ല, ഭക്ഷണമില്ല. ആരോടും ഒന്നുമിണ്ടാനോ കരയാനോപോലുമാകാതെ ചെങ്കുത്തായ മലയിടുക്കില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയ പാറക്കെട്ടിൽ മലമ്പുഴ ചെറാട് സ്വദേശി ആർ. ബാബുവിനെ രണ്ട് ദിവസങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷമാണ്‌ ദൗത്യസംഘം രക്ഷപെടുത്തിയത്.. കയറുകെട്ടി ബാബുവിനടുത്തെത്തിയ ദൗത്യ സംഘത്തിലെ സെെനികൻ ബാബുവിന് ആദ്യം വെള്ളം നല്‍കി. ശേഷം റോപ്പ് ഉപയോ​ഗിച്ച് സെെനികൻ ബാബുവിനെ മുകളിലേക്ക് ഉയർത്തുകയായിരുന്നു. 46 മണിക്കൂറുകള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് ബാബുവിനെ രക്ഷിക്കാനായത്.

അവശനിലയിലായ യുവാവിനെ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച ഹെലികോപ്റ്റർ എത്തിച്ച് രക്ഷിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചെങ്കിലും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു. ദേശീയ ദുരന്തനിവാരണസേനാംഗങ്ങളും അഗ്നിരക്ഷാസേനാംഗങ്ങളും കരസേനയും രാത്രി വൈകിയും രക്ഷാശ്രമം തുടർന്നെങ്കിലും വിജയിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. ഡ്രോണിൽ കെട്ടിവെച്ച് ചെറിയ കുപ്പിയിൽ ഇളനീർവെള്ളം യുവാവിന് അടുത്തേക്കെത്തിക്കാൻ അധികൃതർ ശ്രമിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഡ്രോൺ താഴെവീണു. സുലൂരിൽ നിന്ന് സെെന്യം എത്തിയതിന് ശേഷം മാത്രമാണ് ബാബുവിന് വെള്ളം എത്തിക്കാനും റോപ്പ് ഉപയോ​ഗിച്ച് ഉയർത്താനും സാധിച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച പുലർച്ചെ ഒന്നരയോടെയാണ് ബെംഗളൂരുവിലെ പാരച്യൂട്ട് റെജിമെന്റിൽനിന്നുള്ള ഇരുപതംഗസംഘമെത്തിയത്.

ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച രാത്രി പതിനൊന്നേകാലോടെ മലമ്പുഴ ചെറാട് കൂർമ്പാച്ചിമലയിടുക്കിൽ കുടുങ്ങിയ ബാബുവിനെ രക്ഷിക്കാൻ സൂലൂരിൽനിന്നും ബെംഗളൂരുവിൽനിന്നുമുള്ള കരസേനാംഗങ്ങളെത്തിയത്. ലഫ്. കേണൽ ഹേമന്ദ്‌രാജിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഒമ്പതുപേരടങ്ങിയ സംഘമാണ് സൂലൂരിൽനിന്നെത്തിയത്. തുടർന്ന്, കളക്ടർ മൃൺമയി ജോഷിയുമായും ജില്ലാ പോലീസ് മേധാവി ആർ. വിശ്വനാഥുമായും ചർച്ച നടത്തിയശേഷം നാട്ടുകാരിൽ ചിലരെ ഒപ്പം കൂട്ടി കരസേനാംഗങ്ങൾ മലകയറിയത്. ശേഷം കേരളം കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും സാഹസികമായ രക്ഷാദൗത്യത്തിലൂടെയാണാണ് സെെന്യം ബാബുവിനെ രക്ഷിച്ചത്.

കൂർമ്പാച്ചിമലയിടുക്കിൽനിന്ന് ബാബുവിനെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് കാണാനായി നൂറുകണക്കിന് ആളുകളാണ് സ്ഥലത്ത് തടിച്ചുകൂടിയത്. അഗ്നിരക്ഷാസേന, സിവിൽഡിഫൻസ് വൊളന്റിയർമാർ, പോലീസ്, വനം വകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ, ദേശീയ ദുരന്തനിവാരണ സേന തുടങ്ങിയവരോടൊപ്പം പലരും സഹായം നൽകി പങ്കാളികളായി. രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തകർക്ക് ഭക്ഷണവും വെള്ളവും നൽകാൻ സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനകളും സ്ഥലത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

തിങ്കളാഴ്ച ഉച്ചയോടെയാണ് ബാബുവും രണ്ടു കൂട്ടുകാരും കൂർമ്പാച്ചിമല കയറാൻ പോയത്. പകുതിവഴി കയറിയപ്പോൾ കൂട്ടുകാർ മടങ്ങിയെങ്കിലും ബാബു കയറ്റം തുടർന്നു. മലയുടെ മുകൾത്തട്ടിൽനിന്ന് അരക്കിലോമീറ്ററോളം താഴ്ചയുള്ള മലയിടുക്കിലാണ് ഇയാൾ കുടുങ്ങിയത്. മുകളിൽനിന്നും താഴെനിന്നും നോക്കിയാൽ കാണാനാവില്ല. തിങ്കളാഴ്ച രാത്രി ഏഴരവരെയും ബാബു മൊബൈൽ ഫോണിൽനിന്ന് വീട്ടിലേക്ക് വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഫോൺബന്ധം നിലക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
