Indian archer Abhishek Verma wins historic gold medal in Archery Paris World Cup 2021

By - Siju Kuriyedam Sreekumar -- Sunday, June 27, 2021 , 09:10 AM
Abhishek Verma is the first Indian man to win two gold medals in the men's compound individual event at Archery World Cups. Abhishek Verma beat American Kris Schaff via shoot-off in a nerve-wracking final to win the compound men’s individual title in the Archery World Cup Stage-3 in Paris on Saturday.

"That's archery, it's all about hits and misses. My heart beat went up so I just calmed myself down and kept my focus on the next arrow," Verma said after the nail-biting finish in Paris.

Verma shot a 10 against Schaff’s nine in the shoot-off after the two archers were tied 148-148 in the gold medal match. This was Verma’s second World Cup individual gold medal. He won the first one in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2015.

Earlier Verma defeated Anton Bulaev of Russia 146-138 to make his first World Cup final since Salt Lake City 2018 where he had finished with a silver.
