Noted Malayalam film actor KTS Padannayil, known for his comedy roles, died due to age related ailments at a hospital in Kochi on Thursday morning, film industry sources said. He was 88. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kadavanthara on July 19 and breathed his last at 6.40 am . KTS Padannayil had been undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Cooperative hospital in Kochi since July 19. Later, he was shifted to the Cardiac Care Unit where he breathed his last at 6.40 AM today, a hospital spokesman said. Beginning his acting career as a theatre artist decades ago, KTS Padannayil became active in Malayalam movies in the 1990s. Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava, directed by Rajasenan, was his debut movie.
Padannayil became busy as a supporting actor in Malayalam movies following his performance in movies like Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshatrathilakkam and Vrudhanmare Sookshikkuka. In his film career spanning nearly two decades, KTS Padannayil had acted in more than 60 films. Hailing from nearby Tripunithura, he had also acted in many television comedy serials.


KTS Padannayil, who hails from Tripunithara began his career as a theatre artist, ventured into Malayalam cinema in the 1990s. He marked his debut in M-Town with the 1995 release ‘Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava’ directed by Rajasenan. The actor won the hearts of cinephiles with his distinctive comedy and dialogue delivery and his performances in movies like ‘Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshatrathilakkam’ and ‘Vrudhanmare Sookshikkuka’ is still trending amongst the movie buffs.In his film career spanning nearly two decades, Padannayil has acted in more than 60 films. ‘Adyathe Kanmani’, ‘Swapnalokathe Balabhaskar’, ‘Kunjiramayanam’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, are some of his popular movies.

Despite being a busy actor in theatres, movies and television comedy serials, KTS Padannayil, used to run his small shop in Tripunithura for earning his livelihood.

He mention that Malayala Cinema has forgotten him “I see a lot of people at meetings of ‘AMMA’I look at them and they look back. But as a senior, nobody asks me about my well-being.Then I need not converse with these kids. If they don’t recognize, I also won’t”, he added earlier in a Interview


KTS Padannayil is survived by wife Ramani and children Shyam, Swapna, Sannan, and Saljan.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Education Minister V Sivankutty condoled the demise of Padannayil. M-Town celebs including Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dileep, Suresh Gopi and many others paid tributes to the late actor.
